Christmas Reinvented
Dec 21, 2025 • Jared Ellsworth
So much of what we think of as “traditional Christmas” was actually invented in the last 200 years—shaped by stories, songs, and eventually, shopping. But in the rush of sentimentality and consumerism, have we lost the center?
In this final message of the History of Christmas series, we explore the modern formation of Christmas—from Dickens to department stores—and ask: What kind of Christmas are we creating and could we reinvent it into something better?
Through the lens of the angels, shepherds, and Mary, we’re invited to celebrate, respond, and reflect. Not to cancel Christmas—but to reclaim it. Not to consume more—but to center on Christ.
